Three Leaders Programme

Make qualitatively better choices for the profitability and sustainability of your business more of the time

Uncertainty can be uncomfortable, it can cause us to feel like a fraud or an imposter, like we are on the precipice of failure and discovery.

If not dealt with, this can become a self-fulfilling prophecy leading to unproductive teams and poor business choices which damage the sustainability and profitability of your business.

But much of the uncertainty, and the feelings associated with it, is caused by the quality of our thinking.  The higher the quality of our thinking, the less uncertainty we experience, and the more comfortable we are with the uncertainty we do experience.

This creates a virtuous cycle, leading to more productive teams and more sustainable and profitable choices for your business more of the time.

The Three Leaders Programme developed by Dr Darren Stevens will help you to become more at ease with uncertainty and ambiguity.

It will help you become more confident, resilient, and adaptable.

In short, it will help you to become an inspirational leader with a competitive edge that comes from within.

Discover your key thinking habits holding you back from being the inspirational leader you aspire to be through an Identity Compass™ profile.

Develop the quality of your thinking through business scenario based examination and discussion of leaders with different levels of thinking quality.

Decide how to integrate your learning in your own roles and businesses through discussion of your specific leadership challenges

Here's how it works

The Three Leaders programme was developed by Dr Darren Stevens based on his groundbreaking research on adult development which finally identified the specifics of HOW adults develop.

His results demonstrate the correlation between self-awareness adult development and how an individual’s level of self-awareness directly impacts their capacity to perform in their role.

Effective leadership in dynamic and complex environments requires a capacity to operate from multiple, often competing perspectives (Bolden, Petrov, Gosling, and Bryman (2009)).  Leaders in these environments require two things:

  1. the capacity to appreciate and process paradoxical data (cognitive complexity)
  2. the possession of a range of leadership behaviours that will allow them to lead in this environment (behavioural complexity).

By identifying and focussing on identifiable, measurable thinking habits (Cognitive Intentions) and the levels of self-awareness that these habits confer on the individual, we can transform the quality of your thinking creating the internal conditions to achieve both of these outcomes.

Personal Insight

The Identity Compass™ provides insight into how you uniquely think, where your thinking blind-spots are, a Thinking Quotient score identifying your level of socio-emotional maturity, and an overall Awareness Quotient score identifying your level of Dynamic Intelligence.  All of which help you to better understand you as a leader now and provide you with specific direction for your ongoing development.

Development

Because leadership quality correlates with thinking quality, the Three Leaders programme focusses on your vertical development. This positively impacts your your cognitive and behavioural complexity enabling you to make better choices based on the information available to you and the needs of your team and your business.

Skills

Leadership skills and thinking quality go hand-in-hand.  The skills become easier to master as your thinking quality increases, and application of the skills you learn in this course will contribute to your vertical development.

Duration

Not all businesses have the same budget, and not all business leaders have the same time available to them for professional development.  Recognising this, we have created two versions of the Three Leaders course.  The full course delivered over five days, and a ‘lite’ version delivered over three days for those who are limited in terms of time and/or budget.

Delivery Format

Whilst we advocate in-person delivery, we recognise that with increased home and remote working this isn’t always possible.  Because of this we offer you the choice of in-person or remote delivery.

Community

We believe that our focus on vertical development using principles from Dr Stevens' Constructed Development Theory puts us at the forefront of Leadership Development which offers a unique development experience.  As such, we encourage our course participants to join the community of leaders that have been through our programme so they can support one another's continued development.

Questions I get asked most about this programme

These are the most commonly asked questions. Please get in touch if your question is not answered.

  • What’s the difference between training and leadership development?

Leadership Training involves the teaching of specific leadership skills.  These might include goal-setting and planning, conflict management, or team building to name just a few.  Leadership development is about developing the individual as a leader and might include things like special projects or coaching.  Our contribution to Leadership Development is at the cusp of training and coaching with the specific aim of developing the quality of the business leader’s thinking.

  • Will I get the same program as my competitor?

Our philosophy is one of building the bridge as we walk upon it.  Each Three Leaders programme uses the same framework, but is tailored to the unique thinking styles and business challenges of the participants attending.  In this way, each delivery is unique.  Where participants from multiple companies are on the same course, we require each participant to complete a non-disclosure agreement guaranteeing the confidentiality of any specifics discussed.

  • Is it practical in application?

The practical application on this programme is three-fold:

    • examination and discussion of specific challenges brought by the participants
    • training in specific skills, e.g, strategy development
    • vertical development of the participant creating within them the capacity to utilise skills and approach challenges more optimally
  • How do I know that we need a leadership development program?

Like coaching, Leadership Development is most useful when preparing for or navigating transitions: newly promoted leaders, changes to leadership teams following a restructure or acquisition, or changes to leadership requirements owing to growth.  It might be that you simply want to be even more successful at what you do.  Beginning to consider investing in a leadership development program for your or your company is the first step.  Contact us and we will work with you to see if it is the right solution.

  • Can you give me some examples of topics that you address in the program?

We address topics such as strategic thinking, communication, problem solving, complex adaptive behaviour within teams, dynamic intelligence, conflict management, and coping with uncertainty among others.

  • Who are the programme leaders?

    The programme is led by:
